Profiles interacting?
My daughter just emailed me and said that the two profiles she has been
using for the last few months now seem to be "interacting(?)." My daughter uses the default profile and my grand daughter uses another profile I set up for her back in December. I then created the two shortcuts and put them on the desktop (and in the quick launch - Windows XP). She said that when she opens her default profile, it opens with the home page my grand daughter's profile uses. She changed that, but now my grand daughter's profile uses that new home page, too and no longer has the cats theme that she likes. I told her to look for a phantom Firefox running in task manager, but have not hear back yet. Any other ideas of where to look - how this could happen? A couple of weeks ago I had my daughter open the profile manager, select the default profile (hers) and check "Don't ask at startup" (so that her profile would be the one used when clicking on a link in another app). That has been working the way it is supposed to. I'm sure they are using 1.0.7. (It's so unfortunate that upgrading Firefox is not straight forward enough to be able to tell other people to do it themselves. ... Anyway ... I'm sure this is 1.0.7.) annnd .... Why doesn't the Profile Manager let you see what the name of the profile folder is (it only shows you the name of the profile and Create, Rename, or Delete)? -- ***************************** Chuck Anderson • Boulder, CO http://www.CycleTourist.com Integrity is obvious. The program always starts with the last profile used. So I think, they are not using your shortcuts all the time. The user can change the profile name, but not the profile folder associated with it. -- Kind regards, Melchert MacOS 10.3.9/Firefox 1.5/Thunderbird 1.5 |

Not sure what went wrong but my daughter got back to me and it seems that one of the profile names had a space in it and the quotes were in the wrong place on the short cut. i.e., pathto/firefox.exe - p "profile name" (correct) was pathto/firefox.exe "-p profile name" (incorrect) Not sure why these shortcuts had previously been working for them, but that was the problem. -- ***************************** Chuck Anderson • Boulder, CO http://www.CycleTourist.com Integrity is obvious. I suspect only the granddaughter's is set that way, which means that "Don't Check at Startup" is always loading the granddaughter's profile.
