back-dated nightly 'update', bonecho/ff2
update not quite right?
it has appeared that updates were once a day. since i'd installed a nightly that was a few days old, updates appeared to aminatin that lag of a few days. so, last night, i downloaded and immediately installed the current nightly. having the updats stop lagging was the goal. update messaage popped up, but different trxt. Coincidentally i'd had proxo log running. here's the relevant section. it implies that updater will "update" current versoin 20060506 with 2006-05-03-04-mozilla1.8/firefox-2.0a1.en-US.win32.mar: +++GET 1083+++ GET /pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2006-05-03-04-mozilla1.8/firefox-2.0a1.en-US.win32.mar HTTP/1.1 Host: mozilla.osuosl.org User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win 9x 4.90; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20060506 BonEcho/2.0a1 Accept: text/xml,application/xml,application/xhtml+xml,text/html;q=0.9,text/plain;q=0.8,image/png,*/*;q=0.5 Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive: 300 Range: bytes=6488064-6542375 Connection: keep-alive next, a peek within bonecho's program folder, where a file active-update.xml (copy of active-update.xml before restart with "backward update") <updates xmlns="http://www.mozilla.org/2005/app-update"><update type="minor" name="Bon Echo 2.0a1" version="2.0a1" extensionVersion="2.0a1" detailsURL="http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/releases/" licenseURL="undefined" serviceURL="https://aus2.mozilla.org/update/1/Firefox/2.0a1/2006050203/WINNT_x86-msvc/en-US/nightly/update.xml" installDate="1147002566280" statusText="Install Pending" buildID="2006050304" isCompleteUpdate="true" channel="nightly"><patch type="complete" URL="http://mozilla.osuosl.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2006-05-03-04- mozilla1.8/firefox-2.0a1.en-US.win32.mar" hashFunction="SHA1" hashValue="980894ae910dcdecd4eedec072d0a00341add1c 1" size="6542376" selected="true" state="pending"/><patch type="partial" URL="http://mozilla.osuosl.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2006-05-02-03-mozilla1.8/firefox-2.0a1.en- US.win32.partial.2006050203-2006050304.mar" hashFunction="SHA1" hashValue="486197723608b01bf34af678f3a2a0ac4103a02 3" size="379231" selected="false" state="failed"/></update></updates> version info after startup with initial message 'installing updates': Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win 9x 4.90; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20060503 BonEcho/2.0a1 active-update.xml (full contents of active-update.xml *after* restart with "backward update") <updates xmlns="http://www.mozilla.org/2005/app-update"/> but now i notice a new file in the program folder: updates.xml <updates xmlns="http://www.mozilla.org/2005/app-update"><update type="minor" name="Bon Echo 2.0a1" version="2.0a1" extensionVersion="2.0a1" detailsURL="http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/releases/" licenseURL="undefined" serviceURL="https://aus2.mozilla.org/update/1/Firefox/2.0a1/2006050203/WINNT_x86-msvc/en-US/nightly/update.xml" installDate="1147002566280" statusText="The Update was successfully installed" buildID="2006050304" isCompleteUpdate="true" channel="nightly"><patch type="complete" URL="http://mozilla.osuosl.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2006-05-03-04-mozilla1.8/firefox-2.0a1.en-US.win32.mar" hashFunction="SHA1" hashValue="980894ae910dcdecd4eedec072d0a00341add1c 1" size="6542376" selected="true" state="succeeded"/><patch type="partial" URL="http://mozilla.osuosl.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2006-05-02-03- mozilla1.8/firefox-2.0a1.en-US.win32.partial.2006050203-2006050304.mar" hashFunction="SHA1" hashValue="486197723608b01bf34af678f3a2a0ac4103a02 3" size="379231" selected="false" state="failed"/></update></updates> speculating on a fix (giving fully functional result): i suppose i could uninstall bonecho, then install current nightly. since i also have ff1.5.0.4 installed all profiles should be "preserved" despite binecho uninstall. and maybe (otherwise) full install/uninstall will be wipe out the backward-update data ? -- on winMe |
