Password Manager
I would like the ability to visit web pages that I have user names and
passwords on, and for it to automatically detect that I'm on that page, and ask me for a central password that I can use to fill in my user name and password for this page automatically. I know that Firefox has a Password Manager, but I can't seem to figure out how to get the user names and passwords in there for some sites, plus, I don't know if it automatically fills in the information when I return to the page, which I don't want to do. I used to use a fingerprint scanner that had this capability. It used OmniPass, and did exactly what I needed. However, it recently stopped working, and I have no idea why. Will Firefox do this? If so, how. If not, does anyone have any recommendations as to how to do it? It's annoying to have to remember 20 or 30 user names and passwords. Thanks, Jesse |

Check "Remember Passwords". I presume that when you say you don't want it to fill in Username and Password automatically when you visit a page that this is for security reasons so that no one else can access the site. If so then set the Master Password so that only you can activate the password manager when you fire up FF. Once the Password Manager is activated it will remember and fill in the Username field with your Username and Password field with astrix. If you have multiple accounts accessed from the same page such as multiple Web-mail accounts with your ISP it will not fill them in untill you start typing in your Username or double click on the Username field which gives you a choice. -- Rob http://www.flickr.com/photos/canopus_archives/ |
