small narrow print

I have switched to Open Office Writer.
Two problems.
(1) the printing on the page is about half the selected
font size. For example 40pt type comes out at about
1/4 inch.
(2) nothing prints beyond about 4.5 inches from the left
edge of the paper. Text is folded at about 4.5 inches.
either:
(a) somebody recognizes the problem; or
(b) somebody has questions they want to ask.
I would appreciate either response.
Tnx,

Perhaps I should add...
I am running Linux.
When I click "print", the window that then
opens says my printer is CUPS/Canon.

I just checked "ps aux" and found that cupsd is running.
I printed something in excess of a page. Linux/cups/printer
thinks my paper is less than 5 inches wide and 6 inches
high. the font is tiny. It is 12 lines/inch and very tiny.

Hi Charles,

You can see that you are having a dialog with yourself here. ;)

While many of us here are Open Office users, so you may get an answer
here, this question is really not within the scope of this newsgroup,
which is for Thunderbird related questions.

You may get more effective help in either the OO.o web forum, or via
their support mailing lists, which are mirrored on news.gmane.org if you
prefer the newsgroup interface:

Charles: You might look at Tools, Options, and check printer DPI (mine
is at 200 (default). Just a thought. bob
