I loaded Mozilla thunderbird on my buddys computer,everything is fine
except when I go to subscribe to the newsgroups, the account line is
blank and I can't do any searching for newsgroups, everything is blank,
my computer works fine and I don't recall doing anything special in the
setup, where do I have to go in he setup to get him into the newsgroups.

Why did you post this three times? What do you mean by "the account
line is blank"? What newsgroups are you trying to get him into? For
this server set up an account (Tools>>Account settings)for
"news.mozilla.org"
Under "Server Settings"
server name:news.mozilla.org
port:119
uncheck "Use secure Connection"
