Assuming you need the POP server for your inbound mail, try: mail.rr.com, or pop.rr.com, or pop3.rr.com Not sure if 'rr' is a valid abbreviation, may be you need to replace it with the full name. -- Kind regards, Melchert (MacOS 10.3.9 / Firefox 2.0, Thunderbird 2.0) |

RoadRunner should have provided you with most of the answers to the questions Thunderbird will ask you when you create a new account, as follows: (*) Email account ( ) RSS News and Blogs ( ) Gmail ( ) Newsgroup account Select "Email Account", then click "Next" Your name: [ ] Enter the name you want to appear in the From line, e.g. "Don Nickell" (without quotes) Email address: [ donnickell@roadrunner.com ] This should be the email address which people writing to you must use. Then click Next. Select the type of incoming server you are using: (*) POP ( ) IMAP Incoming Server: [ ] RoadRunner should have given you the right answers to these. If they said POP3, it's POP; if they said IMAP4, it's IMAP. The incoming server might be something like mail.roadrunner.com or pop.roadrunner.com -- it's the name of the mail server to which Thunderbird must connect to get your mail. If the only "mail" server they mentioned was something beginning with http:// then plain-vanilla Thunderbird cannot get mail from there; in that case you need an extension, it's been mentioned in some other thread but I haven't remembered the name. Or you can access that address with your browser to use webmail. [x] Use Global Inbox (POP only) Check this box if you want your incoming POP mail to come into the Inbox under Local Folders. That's what I use but YMMV. After filling in the right answers, click Next. Incoming user name: [ ] Fill in the user name assigned you by RoadRunner. I don't know what it looks like: it might be donnickell or aq8Gmf5b . It should normally be associated with a password, but you will enter the password later, when Thunderbird actually gets mail for that account. After filling the box(es), click Next. Account Name: [ ] Type in the name which you want Thunderbird to display when referring to that account, for example "RoadRunner Mail" (without the quotes). Then click Next. Then comes a summary page showing you all the values you typed in the preceding ones. Double-check them carefully, and watch for typos. If there are any errors, click "Back" to go back and correct the wrong entry or entries. Then click Next again until you come back here, and check the values again. If, after double-checking, everything is OK, click Finish to create the account. Then, sooner or later, Thunderbird will get mail for that account. It will then pop up a dialog asking you to enter the password. Watch what you type, it will not appear on the screen! Normally you should tell Thunderbird to remember the password, so you won't have to enter it every time; but if you are sharing this computer with other people, and if they log in to the computer with the same username as you (not a thing to do IMHO) then maybe you should tell Tb not to remember the password, but in that case you will have to enter it again every time. Best regards, Tony. -- *** NEWSFLASH *** Russian tanks steamrolling through New Jersey!!!! Details at eleven! |

Hi Tony, As you see I have TB set up properly re. NGs, it's just that I can't seem to satisfy Account Wizard when asked for *accountname*. A while ago I recorded some screen shots to help with this so don't know why the Wizard won't accept anything I put in, including what you suggest. But since you have verified what I suspected I guess I'll have to reinstall or, better yet since NGs are working, simply create another Profile and then delete the one with problems. Thanks, Don |
