How do I change the left pane?
THe left pane contains a number of (expandable) items: "Local Folders",
one or more subscribed news lists. Each of these items shows folders or individual news groups. How do I change the order of the newsgroups within a news server? The folders within Email? I tried "drag and drop" with no success. John Kopf |

So if you want to deviate from that, you can add a number or a character to place one in the 1st slot. And of course, if you have several of them, simply add more numbers and they'll appear in that progression. Perhaps someone has come up with a better way, or an extension. (folderpane tools may be of some assist, but not exactly as you are asking.) |

I don't understand - I went to (I'm using Windows 2000): C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\zdbelsqu.default\News ....and found a folder for each of the news servers I use: localhost News news.mozilla.org news.newsguy.com news.spamcop.net The order they're displayed in is: Local Folders ATT News Spamcop news.mozilla.org news news.newsguy.com ........(that's the order they were added) I don't use news, and the spamcop and mozilla servers each have a single NG associated with it. I'd like the order to be: Local Folders, ATT News news.newsguy.com Spamcop news.mozilla.org ....Now, none of these has a "newsrc" associated with it (and there are several others - like "news" - that appear to correspond to "servers" I no longer use - can I get rid of those?). My question is, what defined the order that Thunderbird displays the individual "servers", and the order of the newsgroups displayed within each of those servers (the order appears to be defined within a *.rc" file?). With .rc changes you can put firefox first or thunderbird first or whatever. ?For example, look for news.mozilla.org.rc. Yes, you can delete the servers you no longer use. The extension folderpane tools will allow you to change the displayed order of newsgroup servers -- such as you could move news.mozilla.org up above ATT.News (although I don't know what that is-- perhaps similar to the one I use news.sf.sbcglobal.net which is one of ATT's server names that lists multitudes of groups.)
