Lost all email, accounts and addresses...
Just got an iPhone and since installing it and trying to send a
picture from iphoto... My Thunderbird email accounts are messed up... I got no address email addresses.. I have no accounts.. I had two.. one was for work and the other home. (So two smtp servers.) I have a gmail account... but can't access it by thunderbird either... So where in thunderbird do I tell it where to store my email locally... (Hopefully I can point to the folder where my email is stored.) Same for the other account where email had been downloaded to this computer.. I assume that TBird has file stores for each email account. Where are the email addresses that it used to know by typing they seem to be lost. Mozilla Thunderbird version 2.0.0.14 (20080421) Mac OS X 10.5 |

For the Win applications there appears to be a profile manager. I've yet to find that application on my mac. I thought it was in the Thunderbird mail application itself.. Looked through the menu's and found nothing. Maybe its a separate piece of software? Anyhow I found the directories where the profiles were found and I also found a few Caches. /Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/jpkl7w2t.default ./Library/Caches/Firefox/Profiles/jpkl7w2t.default ./Library/Caches/Thunderbird/Profiles/8ijugk5i.default ./Library/Caches/Thunderbird/Profiles/h3gir8pg.default ./Library/Caches/Thunderbird/Profiles/k8r1ofw4.default ./Library/Caches/Thunderbird/Profiles/tly41r4m.default ./Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/tly41r4m.default I assume the FireFox applications are not relevant. Ok.. so why are the names encrypted.. These are directories that contain profile data.. The notes say something about copying data so.. what would the source and destination copy be.. and back up what first? |

It would seem that the files I want to use as a profile are: Thunderbird/Profiles/tly41r4m.default/Mail Because I seem to recognize my email structure of folder there and the file sizes look correct. So how do I set this profile back to the profile that thunderbird uses? |

Mac OS X Close the application completely and make sure that it is not running in the background. Assuming the program is installed in the "Applications" folder, launch Terminal ("Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal") and enter the command starting with / after the prompt in Terminal: * (Firefox) /Applications/firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox -profilemanager * (Mozilla Suite) /Applications/Mozilla.app/Contents/MacOS/mozilla -profilemanager * (SeaMonkey) /Applications/SeaMonkey.app/Contents/MacOS/seamonkey -profilemanager * (Thunderbird) /Applications/Thunderbird.app/Contents/MacOS/thunderbird -profilemanager If the above command doesn't work, try again, but include -bin as shown in this example for Thunderbird: * /Applications/Thunderbird.app/Contents/MacOS/thunderbird-bin -profilemanager folder names are encrypted (salted) to make it more difficult for a hacker to remotely access your data (thats in your profile tho) always back up before making copies or moving data, better safe than sorry. |
