Anyone Want a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Subscription
I accidentally purchased a RHEL subscription (a year) a couple days ago, and
Red Hat has a flat no refunds policy. Customer service advised me that I can sell it or donate it. Anyone want to buy it at a reduced price? It is a great product. But I have two subscriptions and I only need one. The best e-mail for me is dashley at gmail dot com. -- David T. First lesson then for your Linux Plus precertification. Linux is GPL. That means that you do not need to pay anyone for RHEL. Find a friend who has it and copy it ( yes, that is completely legal), go to a number of places on line who sell RHEL with a namechange and stripping out some trademarks (eg, Pinktie from www.cheapbytes.com and others) (yes, again completely legal-- read the GPL license as part of your classi preparation) What is being sold is a subscription, granting you support rights for that RHEL-- ie you can phone them, go onto their web page for updates ( again also available elsewhere since it is GPL) etc. It is a service, not RHEL that is being sold. |

This post is about the subscription, not the software. ....and the OP might want to search for the term "non-transferable" in the EULA. -- I told you this was going to happen. |

Sorry I was slow in coming back to this newsgroup. The subscription was $349. The price I had in mind was half-value, which is about $175. Another poster mentioned that the EULA says it is non-transferable. Red Hat's customer service says otherwise, and I can forward you the e-mail if you want to write me directly at dashley at gmail dot com. The e-mail includes instructions. If you are simply learning Linux, as another poster pointed out, you can download several great free distributions. The distributions will be fully functional, including compilers, Apache, PHP, etc. For learning, I'm not sure why you'd want Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Please feel free to correspond. Dave Ashley. |
