Display problems with Debian Etch
I installed Debian Etch on a Dell XPS M1530 laptop. It has Intel Core
2 Duo CPU T5750 @ 2.00 GHz, 3 GB Dual channel DDR2 RAM, 256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT video card and 250 GB SATA Hard Disk. After installation, the X server blinked two times and gave an error message "X Server Failed. Do you want to see the error report and do you want to view detailed error report." I saw the details and couldn't figure anything. How do I make GNOME run on my laptop? |

The installer might have made a mistake with the X-Server configuration. I get this every one-in-a-while myself. Post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file here, so we can check it for irregularities. Post the error report, too, if you saved it. Also, did you install the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Etch? Stef |

This is just a suggestion - but when installing many Dell machines it can help to press F1 and type 'install noacip nolapic'. Was your install amd64 or 586 ? -- Neil reverse ra and delete l Linux user 335851 |
