revdep-rebuild doesn't always work?
I have noticed this before with other packages. Sometimes, after updating some
library, I notice that revdep-rebuild says everything is OK, but I still see missing libraries. The current example is that I updated pdflib (to 7.0.2_p8) because of the recent security issues. revdep-rebuild is happy but I cannot start gnuplot (version 4.2.2), because it is missing its pdf library: "ldd /usr/bin/gnuplot" says "libpdf.so.2 => not found". It at least starts (didn't try to actually write to a PDF terminal) if I manually link /usr/lib/libpdf.so.6.0.2 to /usr/lib/libpdf.so.2. Am I wrong in thinking revdep-rebuild should discover this itself and offer to re-emerge gnuplot? Cheers, Peter. |

It should. However, try running revdep-rebuild telling it the library to search for: # revdep-rebuild --library=libpdf.so.2 If that doesn't work either, you can probably file a bug on http://bugs.gentoo.org. |

But in the end it was really my mistake. I had thought that I had updated gentoolkit but instead of running emerge -v I had ran emerge -vp a second time, so I was running 0.2.1. Now with gentoolkit 0.2.3 it works as it should. Peter. |
