This isn't really a Mandriva question, but I can't find a suitable
newsgroup, and I figured that one of the gurus in here would have a
ready answer.

I have a WRT54GL router, which is running the OpenWrt firmware. If I
connect an external antenna (e.g. a cantenna, or similar), I need to
tell the device to use that antenna for receive.

The configuration option for "Receive Antenna Diversity" has the options
"Automatic", "Left", and "Right". My question is, is that left and
right as seen from the back of the device, or as seen from the front?!

As seen from the front of the device :-)
