Problem deleting old URLs from history in Konqueror
Now running Spring, using Kde 3.5.9.
Kept my original /home partition, but renamed .kde to allow fresh installation, then imported bookmarks, address book, etc. I decided I wanted to reduce the history of URLs displayed in the Location bar, so used Configure to reduce the time and number kept. Then I noticed that when I entered the first character of URL it dropped down to show a history of URLs that were definitely older than I had set it for. Then tried right-click in the Location bar and selected Clear History. Looked good - until the next time I launched Konqueror, when all those old URLs had reappeared! So I used Find to search for files containing the text of some of those URLs, but the only ones that came up were bookmarks. Ive gone round this loop several times, and tried deleting various Konq history files, all to no avail. If those URLs aren't in the history, where are they being stored? Chris |

You can safely delete the files there, and then restart kde. Regards, Dave Hodgins -- Change nomail.afraid.org to ody.ca to reply by email. I'm in the strange situation whereby nothing from my previous session appears in the drop-down history (as I would expect by setting "Maximum no. of URLs = 0") yet I still see URLs that I last used weeks ago! I tried your suggestions, including deleting the contents of /var/tmp. Neither changed anything, so at my bext startup I thought I'd try deleting /var/tmp before I even started Kde. Unfortunately (!) I must have made a slight mistake :-) and deleted the whole of /var!! (I know, I know!) So re-installed, keeping /home, but renaming ~/.kde before doing so. This seemed to cure the problem. However, later it seemed to return. Not sure whether I'd imagined the 'cure', I retraced my steps, and began wondering if the problem had reappeared after I'd imported my old bookmarks. Sure enough, re-naming bookmarks has made the problem disappear. I can't explain this , but I'm sure someone else can. Chris |

I've looked through the options in kcontrol, and in konqueror/settings, but don't see any options to control what is shown in the history. At least you've figured out where the info was coming from.
