DVB TV devices for Mandriva

Hi Mandriva group.

My computer:
Intel 3ghz, 1Gig ram, PX9600GT video card.
(digital+ analog.)
LCD digital + analog moitor (acer)
I live in Australia.
I had a TV tuner given to me called "Digitalnow
USB Tiny Twin DVB-T 2"
It has USB connection at one end and antenna at
the other.
In harddrake the device only shows up under
'unknown/others' as DVB-T 2

Identification

Vendor: ‎Afatech

Description: ‎DVB-T 2

Media class: ‎

Connection

Bus: ‎USB

Bus PCI #: ‎1

PCI device #: ‎4

Vendor ID: ‎0x13d3

Device ID: ‎0x3226

Sub vendor ID: ‎0x0000

Sub device ID: ‎0x0000

Misc

Module: ‎usbhid

End.

The device has an LED which never blinks or
indicates that it is recognized.

The config tool drakxtv gives the message as follows.
No TV Card has been detected on your machine.
Please verify that a Linux-supported Video/TV Card
is correctly plugged in.

In mcc package manager I installed
dvb-firmware_frontends. and dvb-firmware-ttpci.

I downloaded (video4linux) v4lxxxxx.tar.gz Being
the latest version.
Untar then 'make' and su 'make install' It
compiled with no errors.

But all to no avail. Still my TV stick is not
recognized.

According to Ubunta news group, it is recognized
and runs fine under linux.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Don.

Try running "modprobe -iv dvb-usb-af9005" and
"modprobe -iv dvb-usb-af9005-remote". Check /var/log/syslog, to see if it
is recognizing the tuner and remote.

According to http://www.linuxtv.org/pipermail/lin...er/022006.html
you may also need to get the firmware, which should be available from
http://otit.fi/~crope/v4l-dvb/af9015/
but that site is not responding right now.

David,
"modprobe -iv dvb-usb-af9005" gives the following:

FATAL: Module dvd_usb_af9005 not found.

"dito remote" the same.

/var/log/syslog is blank.

As you say, http://otit.fi/~crope/v4l-dvb/af9015/
is not responding.

I wonder why Mandriva took drakxtv out of mcc?
It runs from the command line.
I read that it is rather useless.
This does suggest that a tool for TV is really needed.

Thanks David.

Don.

Note the difference between dvb and dvd.

Check to see if they are included in ther version of the kernel you are running.
Here's what I have ...
$ locate dvb-usb-af
/lib/modules/2.6.24.5-desktop-2mnb/kernel/drivers/media/dvb/dvb-usb/dvb-usb-af9005-remote.ko.gz
/lib/modules/2.6.24.5-desktop-2mnb/kernel/drivers/media/dvb/dvb-usb/dvb-usb-af9005.ko.gz

> /var/log/syslog is blank.

Actually blank, or nothing about the usb devices?

It's still there, but mcc only shows the icon if a tuner is found.

With the tuner plugged in, please post the output of "lsmod |grep dvb".

Hi David.

Here is the output of
$ lsmod |grep dvb
dvb_usb 16172 0
dvb_core 71804 1 dvb_usb
i2c_core 19360 3
nvidia,i2c_i801,dvb_usb
usbcore 121932 8
usblp,dvb_usb,usb_storage,uhci_hcd,ohci_hcd,ehci_h cd,usbhid

I have installed the following TV viewers.

[TVtime Telivision] viewer. (Says No video source)
(Cannot open capture device /dev/vieo)

[xawtv.]

[Kaffeine] (cannot find source}

[xine] with plugins. {Says No input device found)

If I list /dev I can find the following line.

pktcdvd/ ptyed ptyu0 ptyz3 tty31 ttycc ttyrf
ttywe usbdev5.1

Be nice to get this going.

Thanks.
Don.

That is plenty of hardware.

I'm in Melbourne.

No, v4l is for analogue tuners. You have a
digital tuner.

Dave posted a link to linuxtv.org.
Prowl around that website looking at the dvb-t
(Digital Video Broadcast - Terrestrial) stuff.

I think that drakxtv might be for analogue only - so no
use to Don anyway.
