PCI-E Leadtek Winfast PxDTV2300H

Hi,
Mandriva 2008.1 free

I am looking at getting a DVB-T tuner.
A local shop recommended the PCI-E Leadtek Winfast
PxDTV2300H card for use with linux. I have visited
LinuxTV.org to check for support, but this card is
not listed.

Googling for "PxDTV2300 H" and "linux driver" has
not been successful, making the search more open
results in lots of pages relating to windows with
this card, and a linux advertisement in the side-bar.

Has anyone got this card running?
Where might I start looking for drivers?

I'm happy to get the Power Pack version of Mandriva
if this is the solution.

Thanks for all help

Don't know if it works for this card or not, but searching
for "Leadtek Winfast linux" lead me to

I've probably done something silly & got the card (the price was very
agreeable) I now know the chips are TDA10048, TDA18271 SAA7160, and
SAA7136E. At the linuxTV.org site I've learned how to get the drivers
(well, the one for the tda10048) and the firmware, but I can't tell if the
firmware is loading (placed in /lib/firmware/), but there is still no entry
for /dev/dvb/.

I'm quite new to trying to get hardware to play nice with linux. The shop
where I purchased the device said that one of their techs had his working
under linux, so it should be possible (unless the chips aren't the same as
his version)

I have a feeling that I'm going to learn a lot by the time it's working.

To tell if the firmware has loaded after your next reboot, run dmesg and
then scan the report that scrolled up your terminal. If you see anything
suggesting a vdeo device, cut and paste it back to a message here.

If it is loading, then go into kaffeine and set it up for your card. If you
have trouble, email me on alan_at_asandco.co.uk. I take it you know what
_at_ implies. I shall be out of communication for another 10 days but will
be able to reply when I get back.

Regards

Alan

That's the right place for the firmware file, but you still have to load
the driver for the card. That's what loads the firmware and initializes
the card. Sorry, I don't know what driver it uses.

What is the actual output of "lspci -v" for the Video device? I can probably
help figure out which kernel module is needed, and how to get it, if it isn't
already included with Mandriva, but that's about as far as I can help.

The thread
http://groups.google.ca/group/alt.os...1f460cb568aa4b
may be helpfull too.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the comments thus far.
I have come to the conclusion that there are two drivers I'm missing, one
for the SAA7160 (the pci-e bridge device), which doesn't look too good. I
have found many references to a need for drivers for this device,
complaining that NXP Phillips claims linux support, but no one seems to
report finding one. Typical comments are like the one found here

http://www.linuxtv.org/v4lwiki/index...aa7162_devices

The other device that looks like I need a driver for is SAA7136 (I got the
number by visual inspection of the card only)
Relevant output of "lspci -v" follows:

04:00.0 Multimedia controller: Philips Semiconductors Unknown device 7160
(rev 01)
Subsystem: LeadTek Research Inc. Unknown device 6682
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 10
Memory at f4100000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1M]
Capabilities: <access denied>

appropriate part of output for "lsmod" follows:

[chris@develop ~]$ sudo lsmod
Module Size Used by
tda18271 34824 0
tda10048 8900 0

Also I don't seem to be able to make the results modprobe stick,
[chris@develop ~]$ sudo modprobe tda10048
[chris@develop ~]$ sudo modprobe tda18271
after a reboot, lsmod doesn't show them again! Am I missing something with
use of modprobe? Or is that because the '7160 chip driver is missing the
other devices cant be seen?

The shop I where I got the card from assures me that one of their techs was
using this card under linux. I have also asked them just what chips are on
that card (different version??), to try that path also.

The link you have supplied will be helpful once I've got drivers sorted. I
have found the local channel info file (au-Hobart)

Yes. modprobe just loads the module, until you unload it, or reboot. To
have it automatically load at startup (once you know the module doesn't
lockup the system), add the module name to /etc/modprobe.preload

I'd check to see if the card is compatible with
http://www.linuxtv.org/v4lwiki/index...k_WinFast_2000

Try running "modprobe bttv", and see if that detects the card. Post the
output of "dmesg|tail -n 25".

The above shows that bttv did not recognize the card. The more I search,
the more confusing dvb cards and the kernel modules get. It seems there
are multiple manufacturers using LeadTek Winfast parts. At least Phillips,
Conexant, and Brooktree, with some cross usage of kernel modules.

The next module I'd try is cx88.

sudo modprobe -r bttv # to ensure it doesn't cause a conflict
sudo modprobe cx88
sudo dmesg|tail -n 25
