Install over network - utterly lost!
I have 2 idential HP rx Itanium servers.
I've installed RHEL ES 4 (Update 6 I think) on one "server1". I've left the install DVD mounted. I wish to install RHEL ES 4 from the other "server2". I'm not physically present so I need to be able to run a lanboot on server2, for it to go to server1, get its IP address etc and do a kickstart install. I know I have to set up tftp and dhcp on server1, and make sure the dhcp server on server1 knows about the MAC address of the NIC onserver2. But I can't find any paper, blog or anything to tell me quite how to do it all. Most seem to want server2 booted from a floppy or CD and "network install" chosen from there. I don't have this luxury - I'm not there and there's no such boot device and in any case I ultimately want to do this for scores of servers and won't be able to put boot media in eah and every one. The official RedHat instructions seem to me to be useless (I'm missing something I'm sure!). They expect srever1's kickstart config to know the IP address of server2. What's that about then? It won't have an IP address, I'm doing an install!!!! If anyone can point me to a resource to what I'm trying to do I'd be grateful. Thx Neil |
