Server shuts down when it gets hot.

Hello all,

let me apologize for posting this here, considering this is not
slackware related question. The reason for posting here is the amount
of quality people that I have seen posting.

So here's my problem the server overheats when installing Oracle and
when it does it just reboots.

This is exactly what the sysadmin told me (FYI he uses redhat albeit I
push for slackware):
"
First of all it was pretty difficult to figure the configuration out
and to make a software raid. This went fine after it got sorted.
Installation of Oracle required a fair amount of manual settings,
which got done yesterday and installation went good. Because of heat
problem machine shut down while it was creating DB views within the
Oracle installation, this morning machine doesn’t want to mount it
drives anymore, which means the whole installation will have to be
done again (which for me would make that #3).
"

Here's the config of the system:
-DUAL INTEL Q/XEON 2.0 1333 12M BOX
-ASUS DUAL XEON S.771 EM64T INT 5000V,6D.DDR2,1333FSB, XGI Z7 PCI
DISPLAY 32MB, PCI-E, E.ATX MB
-4Gb DDR MEMORY
-INTERNAL DVD WRITER
-4 X SEAGATE 500GB SATA 3GB 7200RPM 32MB CACHE
-AICRMC-3F-0-2-R AIC 3U CHASSIS WITH 650w p/s
-R3G-6650P ADDITIONAL 650WATT p/s

Has anyone experienced issues like this? Any ideas are welcome!

TIA,

George

Heat probs are synonymous with computers. I can't boot my current box if I shut
it down and try and boot in the heat of the day. You gotta cool it down.
Most mobos have heat sensors you can monitor. CPU coolers are legion.
Fans, heatsinks, water, peletier, etc. Cool that baby. Krikes! ...put it
in the refrigerator till you get that piece of crap oracle loaded.

Neither flattery nor insults get you anywhere in this group!

Dealing with overheating is a pain. There are some simple and obvious
things you can do to try to change the situation.

A. Leave the case open, at least one side panel.

B. Check the fans for dirt and dust that reduce their effectiveness.

C. Hard drives are a terrible source of heat, if you can remount them to
space them out and leave a good gap between each drive it will definitely
help.

D. Sometimes an ordinary desk fan pointing directly at the air intake, or
the open side of the case, can make a big difference.

Maybe for you younger guys... I'm deep into social security, and that's
something that I'd never try ;-)
