USB card reader recommedation

I finally got digikam up and working for my Canon camera, but what a PIA,
even with slack pkgs. Even then, it's iffy and I gotta try a couple times
before dk connects. So not worth the effort. I've decided to just get
a simple card reader and forget that whole dk mess, which I never use their
lame edit features anyway.

So, would anyone care to recommend a card reader, preferably multi-card,
external, 1.1 compatible, and cheap. I looked at newegg ....dozens and
dozens! I'll just settle for a recommendation from you folks. Thnx.

Get 2.0, not 1.1 - even if you think you don't need it. I've purchased
from crucial.com and been satisfied.

On my mac laptop anyway - I don't plug much into my linux server these
days - use wireless network instead.

When I got a digital camera a few years back, I bought a cheap single-type
reader, about ten dollars, and never got it going. I was still new to
USB, and I have no idea where the problem lay. The card got quite warm
in the thing, leaving me to wonder if the specific unit was defective.

Months later, I got a D-Link Dub-CR100 when it was on sale (I guess
I paid $20 Canadian) and it worked fine without me having to do anything
(which in some ways was good, but it taught me nothing). It's a
multi-card reader, reading more types of cards than I have, though since
I got it three years ago, not only is it not likely still available, but
probably there are new formats that came along since I bought it.

I have a RadioShack Dazzle CF reader that works great, and a GE CF
IBM MicroDrive that doens't work (or at least I can't get it to work - the
Dazzle didn't require any effort to get working). They are not multi-card,
but I figured I would throw the brands out there....

I use a Transcend Multi-Card Reader M2 and it is perfect.
I can't find it on the US site maybe the model numbering is
different for EU? Or it just was updated, the equivalent model
seems to be renamed 'Multi-Card Reader M5', the 'M3' seems
off the same family but for one or two flashs compatiblility,
check at the TS site for the supported cards list and the prices.

There's another solution: SanDisk manufactures SD cards that can be
plugged in a standard USB port. Other manufacturers probably produce
such cards either.

I forgot to mention I need it for a CF card, so thanks.

I've had pretty good luck with the SanDisk ImageMate 12-in-1 reader. It's
a usb device, and it handles CF format, as well as the newer cards. Have
had no problems using it with Slack 12.1.
