It boils down to "if it works > for you, it works, if not, do clean install." I favor upgrading. Many do not. Some are against it. But I run 11.0 which was originally 10.0. My experiences have been good from 10.0 (straight) to 10.3. I have just finished upgaring from 10.3 to 11.0. There is an issue with disk assigning and grub boot loader. This is because 11.0 assigns the disks in a different manner. See in YaST partitioner how your disks are in 10.3. If they are assigned by disk-id change them to device name. Make sure you know exactly how your partitions are currently. If you have both IDE and SATA it gets worse. See also how your bootloader is there. Load 11.0 live CD and see how it assigns the disks. Make sure you know see... above. Upgrade using DVD or netinstall CD. The live CD does not have upgrade option. If needed afterwards correct bootloader with install option "repair installed system" "expert" "bootloader". Also booting from Live and then using vi or vim is possible. Good luck. I'm thinking of cleaning up my notes of this and putting them on line some time soon. I typed this by heart with mobile phone while waiting for customers in a cab so be gentle with errors in it :) Vahis -- Training new things here: http://waxborg.servepics.com "The only thing more expensive than training is the lack of it" Henry Ford |
