You can, however, install it in a virtualizer so that you can indeed run it from within MS without having to reboot. No that does not 'screw up' anything. |

Subject: Installing Ubuntu as a program in Windows. Essential elements of the question belong in the body, where the replies to the question can go into context with the question itself. There aren't going to be any replies up there in the subject. > I read that this .... where 'this' lacks context to reply to here in the body. It is necessary for the respondent to paste your subject into the body of the reply message to bring in the context. The subject is not a part of the body. A good way to write a question body and its subject is to write the body first -- giving sufficient background and the question in complete sentences, then 'titling' the body with a very brief subject, not a complete sentence. It is all right if there are some of the same words in the subject as appear in the body. > can be done but does it work properly or screw up > both OS's? The newest idea for Ub is called 'Wubi'. Instead of configuring partitions and a boot loader/manager, you just install Ub into a Windows folder. http://wubi-installer.org/ Wubi allows you to install and uninstall Ubuntu as any other Windows application, in a simple and safe way. Are you curious about Linux and Ubuntu? Trying them out has never been easier! Requirements 256 MB memory 5 GB harddisk space Windows 98, 2000, XP, Vista -- Mike Easter |

Once installed, you get a boot menu that let's you choose windows or ubuntu which is what I have now. Agreed it makes installing pretty simple for a novice but switching between systems still requires a re-boot. Somewhere they also say install the cd or 'mount an .iso file'. I don't know what they mean by mounting a .iso file in windows (or ubuntu for that matter). Dave Cohen |
