Xorg.conf at default after clean install

After a clean install of Hardy Heron on my PIII 1100Ghz, ATI Rage 128,
PC, I have a screen resolution of only 800x600 or lower. I have had
previous problems with Ubuntu the correct settings for finding my
Mitsubishi 2040U monitor.

I opened /etc/X11/xorg.conf with gedit to put in the correct settings,
and found it has no entries at all in any of the default entries. (Not a
blank screen, just empty settings.)

I tried to use displayconfig-gtk but get an error which says "out of
limits".

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg has settings for the keyboard, but not the
monitor as in Gutsy.

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?

Cheers

The new X version can autoconfigure everything. But you can still
configure by hand, just put in your setting like you would with the
old version.
