Dumb question about edubuntu vs. ubuntu
Are the programs available for edubuntu any different than regular old
ubuntu? I guess what I'm asking is, if I open up "Add/Remove Programs" in edubuntu, will it show different programs (or will programs available in ubuntu be missing)? Thanks |

Edu is built on Ub and your add/remove will work the same. Here're some snips from elsewhere - Edubuntu is built on top of the Ubuntu base, and incorporates the LTSP thin client architecture, as well as education-specific applications, aimed at the 6-18 years age group. Its also useful for homeschooled children. Included with Edubuntu is the Linux Terminal Server Project, a large number of educational applications including GCompris, KDE Edutainment Suite, and Schooltool Calendar. http://www.edubuntu.org/UsingEdubuntu Welcome to Edubuntu - The Edubuntu Difference - Applications - Science - Mathematics - Drawing - Language - Basic Skills - Generate and give tests - Learn touch typing - Gcompris - Gcompris is a suite of over 80 educational games and activities for kids age 4 to 10 to learn with. -- Mike Easter |

The little machine I'm thinking about supports ubuntu (and 2 or 3 other linux distros) but ships with edubuntu. I'm trying to figure out the difference and if there is anything about edubuntu that would be un-usable. I wish I just had unlimited cash so I could try one of each. (grin) Ed |

I would often also install the kubuntu-desktop package alongside, and then I have a choice of session at login time - either gnome (edubuntu) or kde (kubuntu) -- ac |
