According to the Ubuntu and Fedora forums Linux has gotten unstable with
freezing seeming to be the top problem.

They add eye candy and all of a sudden the basic Linux core system goes
into the shitter.

I think, that what Linus Torvalds thougt when he programmed Linux was not
that what some stupid organizations like Xandros do with it. I' m
convinced that he had the target to make a System, that everyone can
afford and not a System that costs up to 1000 Euros.

I've used Xandros 3 & 4, and it cost more like 50$.

For the windoze newbie, its the way to go. Stick another drive in, tell
the bios to boot from the xandros drive, and when it comes up, it'll see
windows and ask if you want to boot it. Without doing anything to the
windows drive. Unless you choose to write- that is add or edit files on
the windoze drive. It reads and writes all the windoze file formats.

And, it DONT EVER TELL YOU YOU DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION! I got a dozen
distros in the box; debian, santa fe, knoppix, slack, suse, etc. Xandros
it the only one which not only saw my Pantech UM150 wireless modem, but
knew how to run it.

Now, I've read the Ubuntu can, so I'm here, and I've ordered it to see.

Yes, Xandros is bloatware; but that is what windoze users expect. They
will also like how it runs windoze apps. I installed NERO just to see,
and it never knew the diff.

But, you are right, they shouldda cut the price, build up a home user
base, who will take it to the office, and make the money off business
networks.

The distros are coded by sys ads, who dont really understand what the
stand alone home user wants, and are therefore a niche market.
