XP Home repair failed to install product catalogs - fatal error
An HP pavilion laptop with XP Home was failing to boot. When I tried in Safe
Mode it was hanging after loading the MUP.sys files. I tired to repair using the system disc that came with the laptop. Now I get an error "setup failed to install the product catalog" Data error (cyclic redundancy check). Anyone know how to deal with this? There are a couple of files I really need to get off this machine. Thanks in advance to all who offer suggestions, whether they work or not. |

Re: XP Home repair failed to install product catalogs - fatal error
Booting to the setup disk offers 'r' for Repair, and leads to the Recovery
Console prompt. Run the command: CHKDSK /R Then run setup/'ENTER' for the other repair, again If no help, try to get the diagnostic software offered for download on the site of the maker of the hard drive. -- Was this helpful?
