Problems with my OS

I have Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002, Service Pack 2
installed on my IBM laptop model T42. I have all the latest updates. I have
the following problems:
1. I am not able to see the icons of my various microsoft and Adobe
documents. I am however able to open all the documents and work on them.
The problem appeared three days back after I had an abnormal shut down of the
system.
2. Whenever I connect to VPN using Aventail Connect Client, the system hangs
for about 20 minutes.
I have McAfee Anti Virus solution installed in my laptop.

Please advise resolution, if any one has come across such issues earlier.

Regards,
Madhu.

Re: Problems with my OS

Right click, an Command Prompt shortcut, 'run as administrator'
shutdown the Explorer task in Task Manager
At the prompt, go to C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local
atrib -h IconCache.db
del IconCache.db
restart explorer (or windows)

Re: Problems with my OS

That was the Vista fix, the XP fix is a lot like that, but easier. You
delete the IconCache file in the windows folders.
