Multiple Program Instances in Task Manager

I had a problem with Paint Shop Pro X2 - it would only run once then I had to
reboot to run it again (no alerts - it just didn't run 2nd time). Then I
noticed that Windows Task Manager is showing multiple instances of every
application I run each day. So, if I have run Excel 10 times there will be 10
EXCEL.EXEs this is true of all MS applications eg FRONTPG.EXE plus shed loads
of svchost.exe etc. If I close the one instance of PSP X2 in Task Manager
then hey presto it will load again (its a one shot application I guess).

I have no idea where to start! Any ideas?
XPro SP2 Norton 360 v2

Thanx - Peter

RE: Multiple Program Instances in Task Manager

Correction - not all applications do this - but FRONTPG.EXE certainly does
and PSP X2 just sits in memory so wont open again.

Re: Multiple Program Instances in Task Manager

Hi "bojimbo26one@aol.com" - thanks for the input.

Unfortunately I have already tried disabling Norton360 V2 but it makes no
difference. Have also added XP SP3 without problems - but the symptoms remain
the same - Multiple instances of many progs and PSP X2 will only run once
without deleting it from within Task Mgr:-(
