I dont know if this will solve everyone's problem, but I accidentally
did this while at work today, and this is how I solved the problem. We
use Dells with integrated video acceleration:

ctrl + alt + uparrow

Actually, on this computer, you can rotate the screen presentation
every way you want using ctrl + alt + [arrow key]. If you push down,
the screen literally goes upside down. It also inverts the mouse
function, so be ready for that.

This is support for people who have screens which can be rotated
physically. I'm thinking of getting one. Presumably, you press
ctrl+alt+{whichever arrow key corresponds to where you want the top of
the display to be} then rotate the screen. Some screens have sensors,
which do this automatically (in conjunction with drivers that know about
it).

I've always been tempted to see if anything happens when I do this. but
I'm too scared that it will get stuck that way (if the wind stops
blowing, for example) and I'll spend the rest of my career standing on
my head. :-)
