Rightclick the system drive icon in Explorer, click Properties, Tools tab,
and run the Error Checking on the drive. -- Please use the Communities guidelines when posting. http://www.microsoft.com/wn3/locales...help_en-us.htm Mark L. Thank you for your response.
I always run a disk scan before attempting any repairs. And before I as for help. This is a family member's computer. Some forum messages indicate this could result from a hardware/memory problem. So, last month when it was doing this I ran memtest overnight. and spinrite and,..... sandra and,.... (Just ordered some new ram, Just in case.) ================= But, this time I am tired of this. And could not get rid of iGoogle. And some other problems. So, I formated the drive and installed XP anew. After 3 boots the recovery error headed its ugly rear. The event log entry, help and support, indicate a driver could not be loaded. Very helpful indeed. Where else can I look for clues. Dell Dimension XP home I had SP3 installed, but yet this time. It got worse until eventually the computer wouldn't boot. I then reloaded Windows and the problem started anew. It ended up being caused by the hard drive not remembering what was written to it. It was a strange symptom... the drive would pass all tests and would work fine for several hours, but leave it sit overnight and it would lose sectors. I replaced the hard drive and never had this problem again. If you only have this problem once, it's probably not a big deal. If it happens every time you reboot, watch out. In the mean time, keep your backups current. -- John |
