Create SP2 CD
I have computer that came with XP SP1. I recently had to do a repair
installation (Boss caught a virus). I re-installed all updates except Sp3. But, when I tried to install IE7, it said some of the system files were not correct and needed to be replaced. And I had to insert my XP SP2 CD. I don't have one. Is there a way to use another PC with SP2 to make a CD good enough for this purpose? Now I DO NOT want a CD good enough to do an installation. I don't use pirated software (not any more, since I can now afford to buy it if really need it). If nothing else, my work CD keys are only good for SP1 or as Upgrade and my home XP CD only has SP1. All I want to know is, can I copy the files from say the i386 folder (as an example) on a good PC and use that when the other PC asks for the SP2 CD? I don't know what files are the problem so I can't just copy those, and it doesn't allow me to Browse the hard drive, so I have to get the files fom another PC. Thanks. |

Re: Create SP2 CD
Do a Google search for Slipstreaming
It allows you to integrate a downloaded copy of SP2 or SP3 into the original XP SP1 ....it creates a fully bootable/installable XPsp2...or XPsp3 peter -- DISCLAIMER: If you find a posting or message from me offensive, inappropriate, or disruptive, please ignore it. Re: Create SP2 CD
integrating the sp2 can
only be done one way which is the right way. it will be bootable and fully functional because that is the way microsoft engineered it to be: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900871/ -- db·´¯`·...¸><)))º> "Head Hunter" <nospam@nospam.com> wrote in message news:%23Fgm2mP7IHA.3976@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... >I have computer that came >with XP SP1. Re: Create SP2 CD
Looks good. Unfortunately, I have the "Dell" CD problem, so I will use my
SP1 CD for it. It is a retail CD so it should work. I don't really need to make a bootable CD since I don't intend to use it for any installations, but it might be good if I have to do another repair installation. Thanks for the quick response. I will post again after trying with my CD. Re: Create SP2 CD
and you still have to create a bootable CD after that using some CD utility
