USB problem
Running WinXP Home SP3
I have three flash drives that have been working perfectly on both my Desktop and laptop( WinXP ProXP3 ). Suddenly they cause a "USB Device not recognised " message when inserted into the Desktop. The laptop reads them perfectly. The Flash drives are two different makes. An optical mouse was picked up and installed immediately. Device Manager shows no problem until Flash Drive is inserted when a "unknown device" item appears. I have tried without success to update the drivers for the USB controllers but believe them to be OK as the Optical drive is picked up. Your comments please,Richard |

I have a problem with one (of several) USB devices _after_ updating to SP3. I reinstalled WinXP (Pro) with SP2 and did NOT do the SP3 update - all is well again, so I know the device is not broken. I have also Googled the problem and I see others have this problem as well. Not all devices seem to be affected. In my case, my USB mouse and keyboard work with SP3. |
