Re: help with svchost problem?
Thanks. I DLed and ran both fix tools, but the problem still exists when I
open the connection to my ISP -- the svchost.exe that fires up is the one with the DNS Client service. It goes right up to high % and hangs Windows for awhile. frogliver "The Real Truth MVP" <toidi@tpap.com> wrote in message news:MiSFk.2549$Ws1.668@nlpi064.nbdc.sbc.com... > Try both my Svchosts Fix tool and my Explorer Shell fix tool. Re: help with svchost problem?
I am using Anvir Task Manager (also already have Process Explorer). As I
explained in detail in my original post, the svchost.exe culprit that hangs the system is the Services: DNS Client. Upon connecting it goes up to 99%. I tried both fix tools from Real truth MVP but that did not affect the DNS Client at all. It seems that I have addressed just about everything but the DNS Client svchost and it is likely that if someone could help me understand that specific issue I would reach some sort of solution. frogliver "Gerry" <gerry@nospam.com> wrote in message news:ekil$bnJJHA.1736@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > Which svchost.exe entry is it? > > Download Process Explorer. > > For further information about Process Explorer see here: > http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...sExplorer.mspx > > It would be helpful if you could post the Command Line of the svchost > process generating the excessive CPU usage. Anything you download from butt's site is suspect and generally warned against by the entire anti-malware community. He's posted pornographic materials on that site to attack reputable people in the anti-malware community and he's bragged about doing it - even posting links to that crap on usenet. For the most part, you can just delete ANYTHING in the hosts file and save it to your computer. You should then download the MVP's hosts file and use it to protect your system as one of the tools/methods. Until you clear out your hosts file you won't be able to visit this site, butts blocks it. http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm Unlike Butts site, this site is approved by the entire anti-malware community, has details about the product, and is not on any blacklist - excepts the one that butts creates to oppress the truth. -- Leythos - spam999free@rrohio.com (remove 999 to email me) Public Service Warning: Learn about PCButts before you trust: http://www.velocityreviews.com/forum...-removeit.html http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=pcbutts1+thief |

Re: help with svchost problem?
At a loss for alternatives amid a day's worth of research about DNS Client
service, I listened to the few who disabled the service as their solution, against the advice of most saying it would adversely affect many things, and stopped/disabled the service. The result is everything is back to normal and the CPU usage dropped to realistic amounts, not overloaded. I wish I had tried that in the first place. Thanks. frogliver "Gerry" <gerry@nospam.com> wrote in message news:%23V3pTvxJJHA.920@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > Avant would seem to buggy software: > http://snipurl.com/43ioz [www_google_com] > > The solution would seem to be to try something else. > > -- > > > > Hope this helps. > > Gerry > ~~~~ > FCA > Stourport, England > Enquire, plan and execute > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > > Gerry wrote: >> Which svchost.exe entry is it? >> >> Download Process Explorer. >> >> For further information about Process Explorer see here: >> http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...sExplorer.mspx >> >> It would be helpful if you could post the Command Line of the svchost >> process generating the excessive CPU usage.
