ACC2000: Import Dialog Box Opens and Then Immediately Closes When You Try to Import Files

This article applies to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) and a Microsoft Access project (.adp).

SYMPTOMS
When you try to import a file into an Access database by clicking Get External Data on the File menu and then clicking Import , the Import dialog box appears only briefly and then closes.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if there was a previous attempt to import a file that is corrupted.
RESOLUTION
WARNING : Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT or Windows 2000, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).
To resolve this behavior, delete the relevant key in the registry, and then run the Detect and Repair procedure:
1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
2. In the registry, locate and select the following key:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\ Common\Open Find\Microsoft Access\Settings\Import\View
3. On the Edit menu, click Delete , and then click Yes .
4. Quit Registry Editor.
5. Run a Detect and Repair procedure for Microsoft Office:
a. Start Access.
b. On the Help menu, click Detect and Repair .
c. In the Detect and Repair dialog box, click to select the applicable check boxes, and then click Start .
