How to fix sbfm40.xla error

Known resolution:

1. Launch Microsoft Excel 2000
2. Go to TOOLS\ADD INS
3. Check to see if Small Business Financial Manager add in is checked. If not, check it. This will usually repair SBFM or will give you another error:
with the same file SBFM40.xla could not be found. Cancel the error, and close Excel
4. Go to FIND\FILES or FOLDERS and search for sbfm40.xla on the c drive. Usually you won't find it.
5. Using Windows Explorer COPY the file SBFM40.xla from the CD-ROM drive and PASTE it into the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder
6. Change the attribute so the file is not read-only by right clicing the SBFM40.xla file, clicking on PROPERTIES and removing the check from READ ONLY.
7. Reopen Excel, go back to TOOLS\ADD INS add recheck the Small Business Financial Manager ADD IN
8. After the repair is finished, open Small Business Financial Manager and the error should be gone.
