Outlook Express required
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Outlook 2000 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Internet Mail Only option. To determine your installation type, on the Help menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Internet Mail Only" if you have the Internet Mail Only option installed. SYMPTOMS ======== After completing an Internet Only setup of Microsoft Outlook on Microsoft Windows NT SP-3, you may receive the following two error messages when you start Outlook: Outlook requires Microsoft Outlook Express 4.01 or greater. You can install Outlook Express 5.0 by running IESetup.exe from the Internet Explorer folder where you installed Outlook, or download it from the Internet Explorer site on the Microsoft Web. Clicking OK results in a second error message: An OLE registration error occurred. The program is not correctly installed. Run Setup again for the program. Clicking OK to the second error message closes Outlook. Restarting Outlook results in the same two error messages. NOTE: This may also occur using Windows 95 and 98. CAUSE ===== Outlook with the Internet Only setup option requires Microsoft Outlook Express in order to work properly; Outlook depends on Outlook Express files. You can get into this situation by installing Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 with the Browser Only option that does not install Outlook Express. Then if you install Microsoft Office 2000 and choose to not update the browser, you are left with a version of Office that does not include Outlook Express. RESOLUTION ========== Follow the instructions on the first error message and install Outlook Express.
