Cannot Send SMTP Mail Using a POP3 Account and SSL
OFFXP: Cannot Send SMTP Mail Messages by Using a POP3 Account and SSL
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: Microsoft Outlook 2002 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOMS When you send a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) mail message by using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) with a Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) account, you may receive the following error message, and the mail message may remain in the Outbox: 'Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x8004210B) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP). RESOLUTION A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem described in this article and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing at a later time, to further ensure product quality. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Office XP Outlook 2002 Public Update that contains this fix. To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the fix.
