OL2000: (IMO) How to Remove and Reinstall Fax Starter Edition

NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Microsoft Outlook with the Internet Mail Only (IMO) option. To determine your installation type, on the Help menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see IMO if you have the IMO option installed.

To remove the Symantec Fax Starter Edition and reinstall the components, follow these steps:



Remove the Symantec Fax Starter Edition entries from the Registry.

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT or Windows 2000, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).



Remove the Symantec Fax Starter Edition account.


Remove the Symantec Fax Starter Edition files.


Remove the Symantec Fax Starter Edition printer driver.


Reinstall the Symantec Fax Starter Edition.


NOTE: Because there are several versions of Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. Consult your product documentation to complete these steps.


Remove the Symantec Fax Starter Edition Entries from the Registry
On the File menu, click Exit to quit Outlook.


On the Windows Start menu, click Run.


In the Open dialog box, type regedit, and then click OK to run the Windows Registry Editor.


Select the following subkey (click the folder in the left pane), and then click Delete on the Edit menu:


HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\9.0\O utlook\OLFAX
Select the following subkey (click the folder in the left pane), and then click Delete on the Edit menu:


HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Ou tlook\OLFAX
On the Registry menu, click Exit to quit the Registry Editor.


Remove the Symantec Fax Starter Edition Account
On the Windows Start menu, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.


Double-click the Mail tab.


Double-click Add/Remove Programs.


Select the Symantec Fax Starter Edition option, click Remove, and then click Close.


On the Windows Start menu, point to Programs, and click Windows Explorer.


Move all of the files in the following folder to any other directory:


C:\Program Files\MicrosoftOffice\Office\Data
NOTE: Do not simply delete the files, in case you need them as a backup.

For information about how to move files, click the Start button, and then click Help. In Windows Help, click the Index tab, type moving files, and then click Display.


Remove the Symantec Fax Starter Edition Files
Rename the following files. For example, change the file name extensions from ".dll" to ".old" or another unused extension.

Usually found in C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook:
Extend.dat
Usually found in C:\Windows\System:

Olfthk16.dll
Olfaxdrv.drv
Remove the Symantec Fax Starter Edition Printer Driver
On the Windows Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Printers.


Right-click the Symantec Fax Starter Edition printer driver and then click Delete on the Shortcut menu. Click Yes when you receive each of the following messages:


Are you sure you want to delete the printer Symantec Fax Starter Edition.

-and-

Some files were used only for this printer and are no longer needed. Would you like to delete these files now?
Reinstall the Symantec Fax Starter Edition


On the Windows Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.


Click to select Microsoft Office 2000, and then click Add/Remove.


Click Add or Remove Features.


Click the plus (+) sign next to Microsoft Outlook for Windows to expose the installable options.


Click the icon next to Symantec Fax Starter Edition, and then click Run from My Computer.


Click Update Now.


When Symantec Fax Starter Edition is installed, start Outlook. If the Symantec Fax Starter Edition Setup Wizard does not start, close Outlook and run the Olfsetuu.exe file.

To run Olfsetup.exe, follow these steps:


On the Windows Start menu, point to Find, and click Files Or Folders.


In the Named dialog box, type Olfsetup.exe.


In the Look In list, select your hard disk drive option.


Select the Include Subfolders option, and click Find Now.


Double-click the file name in the lower pane of the dialog box to start the Symantec Fax Starter Edition Setup Wizard.


After Installation
If you do not have a New Fax Message option on the Actions menu after installing Symantec Fax Starter Edition Setup, delete Outcmd.dat and restart Outlook. This forces the command bar to update.
