WD2000: Invalid Page Fault in Mso9.dll When You Use Bullets and Numbering

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft Word 2000

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT: This article contains information about editing the registry. Before you edit the registry, make sure you understand how to restore it if a problem occurs. For information about how to do this, view the "Restoring the Registry" Help topic in Regedit.exe or the "Restoring a Registry Key" Help topic in Regedt32.exe.

SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to use bullets and numbering in a Word document, you receive an error message similar to the following:

Invalid Page Fault in Module Mso9.dll

CAUSE
This problem may occur when the List Gallery Presets are damaged in the Windows registry.

RESOLUTION
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT or Windows 2000, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).

To resolve this issue, delete the List Gallery Presets key from the Windows registry. To do this, follow these steps:

Close all Microsoft Office programs.

On the Start menu, click Run.

In the Open box, type Regedit, and then click OK. Notice that Registry Editor appears.

Click to expand the following subkey:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Wo rd\List Gallery Presets
Click to select List Gallery Presets.

On the Registry menu, click Export Registry File. Notice that the Export Registry File dialog box appears.

In the File name box, type A:\Gallery.

Insert a blank formatted disk in the floppy drive, and then click Save.

Select List Gallery Presets.

On the Edit menu, click Delete.

In the Confirm Key Delete dialog box, click Yes.

On the Registry menu, click Exit.

Start Microsoft Word.
