Integrated Card Reader 4GB SD Success

Finally got my Integrated Texas Instruments Card Reader to recognise and read/write to my adata 4GB SD card.

By the looks of it no 4GB SD cards will work with these integrated readers out of the box.

Card Reader model names:
Texas Instruments PCIxx21 Integrated FlashMedia Controller
Texas Instruments PCIxx21/x515 Integrated FlashMedia Controller
Texas Instruments PCI (TI-PCI) 6xx1/7xx1 Cardbus(Media Card Reader)

I'm using Compaq V4221TU notebook, but the Texas Instruments is used in a lot of current generation notebooks.

Partial list of Notebooks with same Card Reader:
HP Compaq Presario V4000, X6000, X6100, M2000, V2000
HP Compaq Business nx4800, nx9600
HP Compaq nx4820, nc6110, nc6120, nc6220, nc6230, nc8230, nx6110, nx6120, nx8220
HP Pavilion dv4000, zd8000, zd8100, ze2000
HP Special Edition L2000
Sager 5720 ...
Acer 1410, 165x, 169x, 3004, 3023, 4001, 4101, 4502, 502x ...

Steps to get Card Reader working:

1. Find the very latest version of Texas Instruments driver. Ver 2.0.04
I've tried every earlier driver version, they don't work out of the box. I didn't bother tweaking them as generally the later the drive the better.
2.0.0.4 can be downloaded from Sager. I couldn't find it anywhere else.
www.sagernotebook.com/ft...XX21_X515_16.EXE

2. Now just run the TI_XX21_X515_16.EXE and it will expand the install files into the directory you specify.

3 Now run setup.exe from the directory you specified above and follow the prompts.
In my experience there is no need to remove any of the previous drivers.

4. Wait a little while after driver install seems to finish.
You should eventually get prompted to reboot windows.

5. Now you need to edit registry to change SD card settings.
Run regedit. Key you want to edit is located in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Co* ntrolSet001\Services\tifm21\Parame* ters
Original Key Value: SDParam = 16 (Decimal)
New Key Value: SDParam = 1

6. Need to reboot for new setting to take effect.

7. It should now be working. :-)

1. Remove existing Texas Instrument driver using Windows add/remove or use third party app such as Uninstaller.
2. Do not reset even if prompted.
3. Run the installer downloaded from link. Take note where it extracted to. After installation, do not restart yet even if you are prompted to.
4. Go to the folder where it was extracted to (C:\SWSetup\SP33416\Base\program files\Texas Instruments Inc\TIPCI) and right click on tifm21.inf (type, set up information) click install
5. Go to control panel, sytem, hardware, click on device manager
6. Look for PCMCIA adapters and expand.
7. Right click on the 2nd generic cardbus control and click update driver
8. Choose no not at this time and choose install from a specific location, don't search I will choose driver to install. Press Have disk
9. Browse to where you extracted the files (C:\SWSetup\SP33416\Base\program files\Texas Instruments Inc\TIPCI ) and choose tifm21.
OS will warn you that the driver might not work but just ignore that.
