Encarta 2001 Error Message: Enc2001.exe Unable to Locate Dll the Dynamic Link Library Mvcl53n.dll Could Not Be Found -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia Deluxe 2001 for Windows Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia Standard 2001 for Windows Microsoft Encarta Interactive World Atlas 2001 Microsoft Encarta Reference Suite 2001 Microsoft Encarta World English Dictionary 2001 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOMS When you attempt to start one of the programs listed at the beginning of this article, you may receive any of the following error messages: Enc2001.exe unable to locate dll the dynamic link library Mvcl53n.dll could not be found in the specified path. ENC2001.exe unable to locate dll the dynamic link library SHRL30.dll could not be found in the specified path. MSWORLD6.exe unable to locate dll the dynamic link library MAPOBJ81.dll could not be found in the specified path. CAUSE This behavior can occur if a program that runs in the background is incompatible with one of the programs listed at the beginning of this article. RESOLUTION To resolve this issue, use the following methods in the order in which they are presented. Clean Boot Your Computer The following startup options are turned off (disabled) when you clean boot your computer: System.ini entries Win.ini entries Static virtual device drivers (VxD files) Startup items Environment variables for MS-DOS emulation To clean boot your computer, use the appropriate method for your version of Microsoft Windows. Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) A clean boot loads Windows Me without starting any other programs that may interfere with Encarta Setup. Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type msconfig, and then click OK. On the General tab, click Selective startup. Click to clear all of the check boxes under Selective startup. On the Startup tab, click to select the StateMgr check box, and then click OK. When you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes. To restore the normal startup process for your computer: Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type msconfig and then click OK. On the General tab, click Normal startup and then click OK. When you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes. Microsoft Windows 98 A clean boot loads Windows 98 without starting any other programs that may interfere with Encarta Setup. Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type msconfig, and then click OK. On the General tab, click Selective Startup. Click to clear the following check boxes: Process Config.sys file Process Autoexec.bat file Process Winstart.bat file (if not unavailable or dimmed) Load startup group items On the Win.ini tab, click the plus sign (+) next to [Windows]. Click to clear the check boxes for the following lines: Load= Run= Click OK. Click Yes to restart your computer. To restore the normal startup process for your computer: Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type msconfig, and then click OK. On the General tab, click Normal startup, and then click OK. When you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes. Microsoft Windows 95 Windows 95 does not offer the same steps as Windows 98 or Windows Me for a clean boot. To make sure that no other programs are running in the background, use the "Close Program" feature: Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE. In the Close Program dialog box, click any program except Explorer or Systray (which are components of Microsoft Windows), and then click End Task. If you receive a message that states that the program is not responding, click End Task again. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to quit all programs except Explorer and Systray. Copy Files to Windows\System Folder Right-click Start, and then click Explore. In the left pane, double-click Program Files. Double-click Common Files. Double-click Microsoft Shared. Double-click Reference 2001. In the right pane, hold down CTRL as you click to select the following files: Mapobj81.dll Mvbk53n.dll Mvcl53n.dll Mvjk53n.dll Mvmc53n.dll Mvmg53n.dll Mvps53n.dll Mvtl53n.dll Mvut53n.dll Sfc10.ocx Shrl30.dll Shrpnl10.dll On the Edit menu, click Copy. In the left pane, double-click the Windows folder. Click the System folder. On the Edit menu, click Paste. Close Windows Explorer. |
