HHCTRL.OCX Missing or outdated

Works 2000 Err Msg: You Need a Newer Version of Hhctrl.ocx to Be Able to Read This File

The information in this article applies to:
· Microsoft Works 2000
· Microsoft Works Suite 2000

SYMPTOMS
When you open a file in Microsoft Works 2000 or use Works 2000 online Help, you may receive
the following error message: You need a newer version of Hhctrl.ocx to be able to read this
file.

CAUSE
This behavior can occur if an incorrect version of the Hhctrl.ocx file is installed on your
computer.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods. Download and
Install the HTML Help UpdateTo download and install the HTML Help Update:

1. Visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/to...p/download.htm
2. Click the Download Hhupd.exe 1.32 (716 KB) Web link.
3. Click Save this program to disk, and then click OK.
4. In the Save in box, click Desktop, and then click Save.
5. On the desktop, double-click Hhupd.exe.
6. When you are prompted to update HTML Help, click Yes.
7. Click OK.Download and Install the HTML Help File That You Need

To download and install the HTML Help file that you need:
1. Visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/to...nload_main.htm
2. Determine which HTML Help file is appropriate for your situation, click the Web link
for that file, and then follow the instructions that correspond to your selection.


Reinstall Microsoft Internet Explorer 5
In Microsoft Windows 98 and 95, you can install the correct version of the Hhctrl.ocx file
by reinstalling Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 from your Works 2000 CD-ROM.

To do this:
1. Insert the Works 2000 installation CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the
SHIFT key when you insert the CD-ROM to prevent Setup from starting automatically.
2.Click Start, and then click Run.
3. In the Open box, type the following line that is appropriate for your version of Works
2000 Program
Run line Works 2000 :\Redist\Ie5\Ie5setup.exe
Works Suite 2000 :\Mhp\Redist\Ie5\Ie5setup.exe
4. Where is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive.
5. Click OK.
6. Follow the instructions on the screen to finish installing Internet Explorer 5
