SYMPTOMS
When you install any of the products listed at the beginning of this article, you may receive either of the following error messages:

Internal Error 2735: shoeboxdll
-or-
Internal Error 2735: shoebox.dll



CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the following condition is true:

Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5 or MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components) silent installation was interrupted by a conflict and was not completed. This prevents the cataloguing process from being completed.



RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, follow these steps in the order that they are presented.

NOTE:This issue is known to occur if you have Norton SystemWorks or Norton Utilities installed on your computer. Uninstall these programs before you attempt to use the steps in this article. For information about how to uninstall these programs contact Norton or read the documentation that came with your program.

Uninstall Greetings, Picture It! Photo, or Picture It! Publishing
NOTE: If the product is not uninstalled after you perform these steps, continue to the "Delete Folders" section.
Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.


Double-click Add/Remove Programs.


Double-click Microsoft Picture It! Publishing (or the title for the product that you installed).


Follow the instructions on the screen to uninstall the product.


If you are prompted to restart your computer, do not restart at this time.


Remove Program Folders and Registry Keys
Download and run the Picture It! Publishing 2001 Utility to Remove Program Folders and Registry Keys appropriate to your version of Windows.

Windows Millennium Edition, Windows 95, Windows 98

The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:

Microsoft used the most current virus detection software available on the date of posting to scan this file for viruses. Once posted, the file is housed on secure servers that prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.


Copy Internet Explorer and MDAC to the Desktop
NOTE: If you are running Windows Millennium Edition (ME), skip to the "Clean Boot Your Computer" section of this article.
Insert the Greetings Disc 1 or Picture It! Disc 1 CD-ROM into your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the SHIFT key when you insert the CD-ROM to prevent the program from starting automatically.


Click Start, and then click Run.


In the Open box, type the following line


cd rom:\PIP\Redist
where cd rom is the drive letter of your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.


Right-click IE, and then click Copy.


Right-click an empty area on the desktop, and then click Paste.


In the Redist dialog box, right-click MDAC, and then click Copy.


Right-click on the desktop, and then click Paste.


Close the Redist window.


Restart in Safe Mode
Click Start, and then click Shut Down.


Click Restart The Computer, and then click Yes.


If you are using Microsoft Windows 95, as soon as you see the message Starting Windows 95, press F5.

If you are using Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), press and hold down the SHIFT key as soon as the POST (Power on Self Test) has completed.


When Windows is finished starting, close the message about Safe Mode.


Install MDAC
On the desktop, double-click MDAC.


Double-click Mdac_typ.exe.


Follow the instructions on the screen to install MDAC.


Restart your computer in Safe Mode again.


Download and Install the MDAC 2.6 Update
If installing MDAC 2.1 doesn't work, download and install MDAC 2.6. Perform this procedure after restarting your computer in safe mode. To download the MDAC 2.6 update (Mdac_typ.exe):
Connect to the following Microsoft Web site:


http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/r...eleaseID=24511
Under Download Now, click the MDAC_TYP.EXE - 5,447 Kb link.


Click Save this program to disk, and then click OK.


In the Save in box, click Desktop, and then click Save.


Click Close when the copying process is done.


To install the MDAC 2.6 update:
Double-click the Mdac_typ.exe file on the Windows desktop.


Follow the instructions on the screen to install the MDAC 2.6 update.


When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.


If you encounter problems when you install the MDAC 2.6 update, restart the computer in Safe mode, and then repeat this procedure.
Install Internet Explorer
On the desktop, double-click IE.


Double-click Ie5setup.exe.


Click I accept the agreement, and then click Next.


Click Install Minimal, or customize your browser, and then click Next.


Locate the box in which Minimal is selected. Click Full, and then click Next.


If necessary, click Reinstall all components, and then click OK.


Click Finish.


Clean Boot Your Computer
To clean boot your computer, follow the appropriate steps for your version of Microsoft Windows.
Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me)
Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK.


On the General tab, click Selective startup.


Click to clear all of the check boxes under Selective startup.


On the Startup tab, click to select the *StateMgr check box.


Click OK. When you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes. After the computer restarts, Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK.

IMPORTANT: Look closely at the General tab to ensure that the check boxes you cleared are still cleared. Proceed to step 6 if none of the check boxes is selected. If you see a disabled or gray check box, your computer is not truly "clean-booted" and you may need assistance from the manufacturer of the program that places a check mark back into Msconfig.


After you verify that your computer is clean-booted in step 5, you can isolate the issue. If the original issue does not reoccur after the clean boot, select one item at a time under Selective startup, and then restart the computer to see if the additional entry reproduces the original issue.


Microsoft Windows 98
Click Start, and then click Run.


In the Open box, type msconfig, and then click OK.


On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the following check boxes:


Process Config.sys File
Process Autoexec.bat File
Process Winstart.bat File (if available)
Load Startup Group Items



On the Win.ini tab, click to clear the following check boxes:


Load=
Run=



Click OK. When you are prompted to restart the computer, do so.

NOTE: To restore your original Startup options, click Normal Startup on the General tab in the System Configuration Utility.
Microsoft Windows 95
Restart the computer. When you see the Starting Windows 95 message, press F8, and then select Command Prompt Only from the Startup menu.


At the command prompt, type win, and then press ENTER. Press and hold down SHIFT until the Windows startup sequence is completed.


Turn off any antivirus or disk tool programs that are installed on the computer. For information about how to turn off these programs, see the printed or online documentation for the program.


Quit all running programs except Explorer and Systray. To do this, press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, click the program that you want to quit, and then click End Task. If you receive a message that the program is busy or not responding, click End Task again. Repeat this step to quit all programs except Explorer and Systray.

NOTE: To restore your original Startup options, restart the computer normally, and then turn on any antivirus or disk tool programs that are installed on the computer. For information about how to turn on these programs, see the printed or online documentation for the program.
Reinstall Greetings, Picture It! Photo, or Picture It! Publishing
Insert the Greetings Disc 1 or the Picture It! Disc 1 CD-ROM into your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. If Setup starts automatically, follow the instructions on the screen to install the program.

NOTE: Do not use Minimal installation options.

If Setup does not start automatically, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click Run.


In the Open box, type cd rom:\setup, where cd rom is the drive letter of your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.


Click OK.


Follow the prompts.


Microsoft recommends that you use a "Typical" or "Full" installation option to prevent usage issues after you install Greetings or Picture It! If you use the "Minimal" installation option after you perform the steps in this article, most thumbnails of the clip art are not created in the catalogue. The clip art may be in the list, but with a standard icon, instead of the thumbnail icon. You must right-click the standard icon and insert the appropriate CD-ROM to gain access to the clip art.
